The late Mr. John W. Bennett along with his wife Mrs. Arthalia Bennett were the founders and original owners of Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville, Inc. After the passing of Mr. John W. Bennett, Mrs. Arthalia Bennett Spaulding started Peoples Funeral Home of Shallotte, Inc. in 1991. The expansion allowed us to better serve the Brunswick County communities.

The Bennetts created both funeral homes with determination, hard work and compassion for the community. Today the heritage of unparalleled personal service and the vision to meet the needs of each family is carried on by their nephew, William Ernest Shipman. William has been a licensed North Carolina funeral dirctor since 1985; he too has the same care for every family suffering the lost of a love one.
